Got out for the last hurrah on fluke Sunday. Winds werent too bad when we headed out at 8, but I knew that wouldn't last so I chose to stay in the back of the Raritan bay and hit some spots that had produced for me in the late season in years past. We managed a dozen or so shorts, with the obligatory robins mixed in. The ones we got liked shallow water, 15 feet or less. My Wonder Rig worked for me, the others did OK bucktailing.
After the wind turned on, I got a full saltwater "spa treatment" as we made the short run back to Keyport, from South Amboy. Soaked.
I saw a lot of guys fishing in the creek in Keyport, as we were heading out. I don't know how they did, but there were a lot of them.

I know it’s too late now (store for future referenced) but I’ve always done very well in both the creek in Keyport and Morgan Creek in September fishing live peanut bunker.

Even when I didn’t have access to a boat (either private or party) I did well fishing live peanuts fishing off the pier in Keyport.

Yep, there were a couple of seasons where the creeks were where the action was. Match the hatch with peanuts, and it was game on. I just blew the call this time, shoulda stayed in my backyard!
