Treating my 22yo son to a fishing trip for the hard work he's been putting in this summer on his Trigonometry class (he got a 91%!!).

We go out this Sunday on the Queen Mary out of Pt Pleasant.

I haven't done this type of fishing in a long time (25+ years) so my question is what types of jigs are best? I'm familiar with the Ava lures (007, 027, 047), but which size would be best? Any other jig manufacturer recommendations?

Also any other bait considerations? Silversides or bunker chunks? I'm not sure what the boat will provide (if anything)?

Just looking to help my son have a good/productive trip. He sure has earned it this summer. Any tips or advice would surely be appreciated. Thanks!!

Blues are not finicky and will eat just about anything that moves so any of the ava should work if you see them feeding on top any sort of popper will work and its a pretty exciting way to fish since you can see them smack your lure up top. As far as bait, I’m sure the boat will have you covered there and will likely be using bunker or spearing. If you happen to run into a school of larger fish that are chasing adult bunker having a bunker snag handy is a good idea. Simply snag a bunker , put your reel in free spool and let it swim around with the snag. Just be careful and respectful of others around you if the boat is crowded since it sort of limits how you can fish and not interfere with others.

Good luck and let us know how you do!
