This from NJ DEP....New Jersey recreational cobia regulations have been changed to one fish per vessel per trip with a minimum size of 37 inches, and no seasonal restriction. These changes have been made to comply with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission fishery management plan for Cobia.
Don't shoot the messenger please

Funny. Bitter sweet news. Like grouper, we never had enough Cobia caught to even bother with an NJ regulation before.

On a similar subject - I was fluke fishing in the Shrewsbury River recently and something hit my bucktail jig hard. Thought it was a bluefish because that's a common occurance. One hit (miss), followed it up and hit again (miss) followed it right to the surface - about a 24 inch cobia. Never exdpected that in a zillion years. Just thought it worth a mention. They are around.
