Bluefishing Friday & through the weekend
7/15/Report
We had pretty good blue fish jigging today for fish up to 13lbs.
There were a number of limits caught today and we read plenty of fish.
The pool and it was Rudy M with a 13 lb blue fish.
Both plain jigs and jigs with tails worked well.
We even had a few sea bass, porgies, and fluke mixed in.
The Jamaica will be sailing at 7:30 a.m. for Blue fish Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
You can see our complete schedule at our website and purchase tickets for future trips at www.bigjamaica.com.

The post for the 7/14 trip did not say anything about the sea bass that where
caught and no pictures where posted. I took my 15 year old grandson and had told him of all the great blue fishing trips that I had on the Big Jamaica. What a
very big let down. We ride 90 minutes to get to the boat. The chumming was the worst that I have ever seen, and all we did was jig. Talked to others on the boat and they said the the same, came for Blues and nothing.

First off, the bluefish bite has been a strictly jig bite. None of the boats that are bluefishing (Big Jamaica, Golden Eagle, Miss Belmar, Queen Mary) are chumming. In fact, it’s been several years since that there has a been a summertime bluefish bait bite.
Secondly, it’s fishing not catching. You, the boat, and the rest of bluefish fleet (from the reports I reads from the above boats) all had an off day. The bluefish were just not biting-it happens. Be happy that you spent quality time with your grandson. Fishing is not always about catching.
Lastly, if you’ve followed the reports then you would have known that by early afternoon the boats turn their attention from bluefish to sea bass. It’s not like the old days when there was no bag limit on bluefish. Today there is a 5 bluefish per person limit-which when the bite is on can get filled quickly and when the bite is off (like yesterday) it’s nice to have another species to target. Or would rather continue to beat a dead horse and try for bluefish when they aren’t biting ?
For the record, I have absolutely ZERO affiliation with the Big Jamaica-in fact I’ve never fished on the Big Jamaica.

Only problem with your trip is if the reports were embellished and were inaccurate...
Chumming with bait for blues?.. Thats a method has really had its day.. Years ago it was extremely common, and people filled huge garbage cans full to the top with huge monster blues, ate one or two, gave one or two away, and buried the rest in the yard for the tomato plants.
These days, bluefishing usually means jigging.. Neater, cleaner, cheaper for the boats, and most guys like it better.. Fish aren't as big typically, but 5 2-4 pound blues is a lot of fish, and certainly better eating and less waste than we had years ago..
It is what it is.. Almost NO fishing is what it was 30 years ago, but its still not bad... Just need to get out on the right day.. A few months back I drove 5 hours each way to catch ONE skinny sea bass.. Day before they killed them, saw the pics, day after they killed them, saw the pics.. The day I went the fish had lockjaw... It happens... You'll get'um next time! bob
