Hey gang, I picked up my niece Grace and we had a fabulous day out in the deep blue. I know her dad/my brother, Capt. Glenn, is looking down with a big smile on his face. Plus, the fish Gods were good to us. We had over 250 big sea bass on the boat today.

Just curious y does everyone call it a “wreck” when u are just fishing the normal rock bottoms and dumping grounds everyone fishes. I’ve been on the grounds and seen where everyone is at. Not being picky here but it’s all smoke and mirrors. How many wrecks are there within a few miles of sandy hook that everyone doesn’t know about. Let’s be real. Most of them have no relief off the bottom bc they have been blown apart to nothing lol.

So I’m just curious why you guys call it a wreck report when you guys are fishing the same dumping grounds and reefs that everyone fishes. I’ve been out there and fished around the spots and I know what you guys are fishing, why the smoke and mirrors. Really how many wrecks are there close to sandy hook that a million people haven’t been to with modern gps. Secondly if anyone doesn’t know any better almost all in shore wrecks are blown to pieces just because they are in shallow water. A head boats range in a day is 100’o of water. It is what it is. I just have to laugh at the smoke and mirrors we see today.

I’m just curious why you guys call it Wreck fishing when you fish the same spots and dumping grounds that everyone fishes. Reefs inland dumping grounds. I’ve been out there on the grounds and I’ve seen you guys and I knew where are fishing. With today’s modern GPS there are no special spots all the wrecks that are out they are blown to pieces because they are in too shallow of water.

I like to advertise the words WRECK FISHING because it separates me from the few of the boats that advertise bottom fishing and only put one anchor out. The term wreck fishing means structure, rocks, rubble, sometimes ships, etc. I talked about this last week. For instance, the kind of fishing that we have been doing for the last month, you can get away with and catch fish with one anchor, but when conditions change like it did this past Tuesday May 25th when we had a 30 mph SW wind with a strong outgoing tide that's when 95% of your party boats that are wreck fisherman as to say, will put out two anchors for you. That's what we did on that Tuesday. There are party boats, I won't mention any names, that only had one anchor out that day and it's not because they don't want to put out two anchors, it's because they never learned the conception of how to do it. That's why you will never see these few party boats advertise Blackfishing when it starts in mid November. GPS, an example. You can anchor up on wrecks or structure and be right on the drop within 20 feet with one anchor, but within minutes you might be 350 feet away. This happens all the time with all the little boats out there and a few of the party boats. That's why I like to separate myself by using the words WRECK FISHING.

Somewhat partial to your opinion on this one. Yes there are many vessels that fish dumped rubble and rough bottom in our bight. However there are still plenty of pieces that I call a wreck and fish although it may be well broken up.
I have spent plenty of years not only fishing in our area but also diving spots that I fish and it is sad to see the deterioration of many hangs over the years.
Unless you're advertising a targeted species (fluke, blackfish etc...) majority of head boat anglers view "wreck" as meaning multiple species depending upon the season similar to advertising "bottom".
I'm sure if there was a consensus with anglers their assumption would be that they are anchoring up and fishing for the day when they see the word "wreck"
While fluke live on the "bottom" they are never advertised as "bottom" fish in our area.
Its a a shame the weather will keep everyone tied to the docks over the weekend, tight lines!

Whole Mud Hole and Artificial Reef system is full of intact wrecks. I fish wrecks, rubble, and natural rock about evenly over the course of a season.

Yes! Wendy works the galley and Joey Gorsky Sr. and his son Joey Jr. work the deck same crew as Captain George of the party boat Anger.
