One of the things I wanted to do this year was to become more proficient using light jigheads with with Fin-S, Zoom Fluke, Bass Assassin (jerk shad style) soft plastic tails for back bay striped bass using light spinning tackle.

Finally had the chance (time) to get in a few hours on 2 days this past week.

First day, I hit 3 spots. Nothing at the first spot. Second spot-no bass but I did find some out of season fluke. I caught 5 with one a would be keeper (released) while dropping another 3 and missing another 3-4 bites. Third spot-once again no bass but caught 3 more fluke including one of @21”s (also released)

Yesterday, Jason accompanied me. Started off at the spot where I caught & released with 21” fluke. Within 5 minutes of fishing, I caught a nice 23-24” bass. No more bass after that but I did get 2 short fluke, while Jason caught (& released) a nice fluke of @23”s. Moved to the first spot I fished a few days prior-once again no bass, just more fluke-we combined for another 4 shorts & another would be keeper (released) for Jason.

We may or may not have our boat ready for the opener but I now have at least 3 spots to hit from land for opening day of fluke season this coming Saturday

I was using a Daiwa Back Bay 7’1” rod model BB71MFS rated for 3/16-3/4 ounce lure weight & #8-17 line matched with a Daiwa BG MQ2500 spooled with #10 braid & #15 mono leader. I was throwing a 3/8 ounce round jighead with a 6” soft plastic jerk shad with ease.
