Fished the Sea Bass opener with brother Joe (Mom made him take me :) ) Jarhead Arty and Sven Of The Hook Tim....

Joe had an idea of were they were based on last year this time, pulled up on the spot and went to work getting a quick limit in a few hours... I started with a diamond jig and no bait but when I saw the others, especially Joe bailing the fish with a high/low and clams, I added a teaser clam hook a foot above the the jig and got into the action...

Not many throw backs and strangely enough, rather then most being just shy of 12.5 inches, most were just over the mark with a few nice knuckle heads, a few ling and a short Cod..

Headed back early and stopped on the Knoll to see if we could mark any Stripers. There happened to be a Conservation boat in the area and as soon as we stopped they came over to check us out... According to Joe, he caught all those fish and the rest of us sucked so I was tempted to tell the officers all those fish were his :) He took one look in the fish box said OK all good here and we were on our way..

Nice day out on the water and some nice tasty sea biscuits for the table.

Gerry, what's your favorite sea bass recipe? I just started fishing for them the last couple of years and both times I kept some I was underwhelmed just enough to not go back to catch more but not so much that I can tell you the recipe that I used.

This ling recipe works well with Sea Bass too... Enjoy! https://www.njfishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113066

similar to out opening day seabass trip saturday... basically drop and reel fishing on light jigging rigs with some ling and a short cod in the mix. great quality too, we didn't have to keep the barely legal sized fish, everything was very nice and even the 13.5-14" fish had think fillets!
