Made my first doubleheader fishing trip for this year today. Caught, tagged and released a 34” bluefish from a Central Jersey jetty this afternoon with a plain hook Ava A-17 then caught a yellow perch and warmouth in a Central Jersey Brook in the evening. Applied for my 53rd NJ Skillful Angler Recognition Award for the bluefish. It is illegal to release warmouth in NJ.

That's a great bluefish there Band...First one I've seen reported this year. Best of luck with your Skillful Angler submission, I think you'll be on the leader board for a while with that early season fish!

Nice bluefish.

I know of one other confirmed report of a #13 bluefish caught from the surf yesterday.

I plan on hitting my spring bluefish spots tomorrow.

Never knew that about warmouth being illegal to keep in NJ.

Great job.

A warmouth? Never heard of it. I guess we're lucky I didn't catch it? LOL

Returned today and saw a lot of fishermen catch many big bluefish. Boats were in casting range of my spot but I managed to catch, tag and release a 26” bluefish with the spoon that I found in the rocks the previous day.

Brought 8-10 over the wall today (old age making me lose count) as well as pulling the hooks on the same number and also dropping 2 trying to swing them in.

Caught, tagged and released 10 bluefish from 21” to 30” with metals this evening. They were still biting when I left. Tagged my 2,400th NJ bluefish. 29 were recaptured from Cape Cod Canal to Atlantic Beach, NC. Fishing in tomorrow’s 60 knot wind may be difficult.

Do blues bite in high winds? Had to work. Itching to get in on the gators.

Big blues in the river, right by the canal. Bone-colored SP minnow. I went full stealth on the 15-lb mono leader, they always seem to go for the rear hook and never get the line. I love this time of year.
