I went to Grumpy's last night to pick up some reels that I had serviced. We were talking about Raritan Bay fishing and they mentioned that one of their customers had their car jacked cliffwood/keyport area. Has anyone heard anything about that? Apparently the car was found in Newark totaled, but all fishing gear was recovered.

Haven't heard about it but I have had issues fishing at night. In Florida fisherman are allowed to open carry a firearm sadly I don't think that will ever happen here. I keep a big knife on my wading belt sometimes. It deterred a guy that was looking to hassle me once.

Happens every year. Sadly most of the damage is done at the impoundment itself where the car is brought. Organized crime and they strip every part of value out of it including electrical fuses and circuit panels before you'll ever see it. They charge daily storage, make a killing on the parts they steal and then get salvage value when the car is officially totaled. Great business model. Shocked the fishing gear was recovered.
Fish Cliffwood, Keyport and Keansburg and you assume the risk associated with those areas.

THIS!!!!!
Cant leave anything of value in the car, or at least in sight, in these areas and a few others along the back bay. The opioid epidemic is rampant and they wont think twice about selling your $800 VS for $150 along with that ODM rod for $50. And dont leave piles of change in your center console or cup holders. That's easy pickings for a smashed window and rob job.

Time for easy pickings boobie traps...
Thoughts? Fishing rods tangled in with spear guns or cross bows? LOL Like pulled pin grenades under the Claymores. Go ahead and screw with it
