I just learned of the passing of Jeff Dement, the director of the fish tagging program at the American Littoral Society based out of Sandy Hook. Those of us who are fish taggers have lost a real friend. He was always supportive and informative to us all. His efforts to document the tagging operations up and down the Atlantic seaboard were Herculean. His latest summary of last year’s tag returns is posted in the Underwater Naturalist. There, you can see just some of Jeff’s work.

RIP, Jeff. Your work will continue even in your absence.

Here are some really good "reads" for you during your Corona confinement and this snowstorm. They offer information about fishing and marine environmental issues from far and wide but with an emphasis on the NY, NJ area. There are tagging reports as well as other interesting articles most of you will find informative.

On a side note.......In a conversation I once had with Jeff in his office, he showed me a tag return that he held special. It came from a bluefish caught off Kennebunkport, Maine, by former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

Talk about fish stories!

Here are the links. Enjoy the reading.
