The Gambler was out early today with a light crowd, headed for the SE taug grounds. It was a nice ride off but got to be very nautical by the time we anchored up.

We started catching a mix of keeper and short blackfish shortly after sunrise. Plenty of bites if you were patient. They took whites, greens and even clam baits.

It was a little tricky to keep the sinker on bottom with the swell, but most of us managed.

With a light crowd, I was able to jump down on deck and fish myself occasionally. I managed 3 keepers (2 on white leggers and one on a small piece of clam) and a half dozen shorts.

The guys had 2 to 4 keepers each.

Good bunch of guys.

We are looking forward to Saturday, which looks like it should be good weather. Still spots open --jump on if you can.

We are heading to the Southern grounds, 25 to 50 miles. The Gambler is fast and comfortable, so it does not take us long to get to the grounds. We have hot and cold snacks and coffee and all your tackle needs on board.

Hope to see you aboard

Capt Bob

Quick question - the first picture the gentleman has a rod with a diamond jig. Did you run over a pile of Stripers ? Pollock ?

With the volume of sand eels this fall/winter, the blackfish have been taking to diamond jigs as they mimic the prevalently available forage.
