Fishing has always been my go to stress reliever and the place where I can get away and mentally check out for a while. With all that went on this past year I was extra thankful we had fishing.

March was unusually mild this year so we got a jump on all the spring launch work and were ready to go 4/1 for a change and the fishing didn't disappoint. We had some of the best big tog fishing ever. Sven of the Hook (Tim) pictured below had 4 Double Digit Togs in April all released to fight another day. Funny thing is he hasn't caught a thing since :)

Me and Joe?? Let's just say we were Tim's photographer in April....

Feel free to pile on here and let us know what your 2020 highlights were...

Love this! Looking forward to seeing everyone's highlights.

Mine was back in August on the Miss Montauk. Best day of fluke fishing I've ever had. Quality over quantity (7 of 10 I caught were NY keepers) and the huge sea bass filled the void when the fluke bite died off. Almost all fish were caught on a single 2 oz. jig (Magictail hoochiemama or F.O.M.F.) with spinning gear, my dream conditions. Couldn't wipe the s*** eating grin off my face the whole day, and got my PB 8.1. Can't wait to get back out there next summer!

My highlight this year did not happen in NJ, it was another Massachsetts massacre. Covid prevented us from sleeping on the boat overnight so captain had to return to port between 1 day at Nantucket Shoals and next day at Georges Bank. Fluking was great, got 8, 9, 9.5 lbers on 3 consecutive drops. Haddock fishing was lights out, stopped when cooler was full. Definitely my highpoint in a year of lowpoints....

It was a great year overall ..first surf caught striper...5 stripers over 35 pounds caught and released on one Fall trip...getting my son and daughter their first keeper stripers...Mom putting a hurtin on the kingfish population from the surf..Covid has forced people to re prioritize things and my family certainly took advantage of it.

I had a very fun and productive year, but my highlights were all about my 8 yr old son Ryan really getting stoked on hitting the deck of a boat, the sand and even some ponds. He made his first mid shore trek for bottom fish in pea soup fog and big rollers last month, yeah he turned a little green, but he puked and rallied and stayed at the rail all day! Thanks to the crew of the Mad Gaffer for putting him on the meat! He also managed to win the Neptune Police hooked on fishing not on drugs tournament in October for most fish caught category! Grandpa Joe helped him keep the lines tight for sure! Haven't seen a smile this big since his 1st win in quarter midget racing or when he gassed to batters pitching in an All Star baseball game last season! Future dock rat in the making! Sorry in advance Mom for all the slang and profanity he will learn from hanging with us too often down there!! Merry Christmas fish heads!!

Great to see Ryan at the rail. Seems like a lot more families got into fishing this year as a result of Covid. I guess that's one good thing that came out of this whole mess.

For someone who has never caught more than 1 keeper each season in the past 10 years, this year is very special! Not only I caught my PB and also hooked double on my last trip in November can’t wait for spring!
