Jason and I took his boat out for one last time this year before we put her to bed. Got a slightly later start than we had hoped but we still had high expectations. Going on some intel we received we got to our first area and had good bird life as well as bass rolling on top. Jason hooked up on his second drop with a good fish but unfortunately the hook pulled 20’ from the boat. The bird life began to scatter and there were less fish rolling now, so we decided to run up the beach. After a 40 minute run we dropped jigs on some marks and once again Jason hooked up only to lose it. With the he jig bite not really happening for us we decided to troll . We deployed one tube rig and one shad rig. After ten minutes the tube rig produced a 29.5” bass. Trolled for another 20 minutes with no more knock downs, so we picked up the gear and continued up the beach. came upon a big but scattered fleet with bird life and fish rolling. I started throwing a Zara Spook and after a few casts came tight but now it was my turn to be snake bites as I had a knot failure. We each dropped another fish before wed decided to troll our way home for as bit. This resulted in another small legal size bass at 29”s on the shad rig and 2 slot bass on the tube rig. All bass were safely released healthy. So even though we did limit on both legal and slot sized bass we feel we left a lot out there as we each had several shots at bigger fish but just couldn’t get it done. It happens.
