When I was a kid and did all of my fishing with my Grandfather we would go to the boat no matter what the weatherman said unless it was a major storm. Most of the time there would be a window to get out for a few hours and catch some fish. Now with apps and easy access to wind reports etc it seems like I stay home on days when the reports where incorrect like today and wish I went. Yeah I know getting older has a lot to do with it but my Grandpa wasn't that young and almost always went. What's your take on this?

Along with the weather, tide and wind apps, I use the surfers view web cams and the Atlantic Highlands Harbor web cam as soon as it's daylight.

Agree Irish, I use the Manasquan surf cam, you can tell if they are breaking on the bar (steep)and interval. Usually good out to about 5 miles....

Was beautiful this morning , and we fished until 4.
Winds were cranking but fine with the incoming tide

Fished the Manasquan Inlet north jetty this evening for 2 hours without a hit. Few boats were out in the nor’easter gale.

last spring i had a fishing trip planned in may and kept a close eye on the weather as usual. forecast called for patchy fog, visibility 1-3 NM. figured it was doable. got to the launch ramp and the fog was thicker than peanut butter. waited 2 hours and not much better so we turned around and drove back home. 3 hr round trip towing a boat for nothing. sure as hell not going out in those dangerous conditions. couple of weeks ago had another trip planned and low and behold there it is in the forecast again... patchy fog 1-3 NM visibility. not wanting to get snakebitten again i cancelled the trip. turned out to be FOGLESS and a beautiful day!
weather forecasts, especially marine, can be frustratingly unpredictable (as we all know), even the night before, but it's the best we can go on. for me and at this point in my life where i have little free time, i need to use all the resources possible (as others mentioned) to get out in decent conditions for an enjoyable day. not into getting beat up and wet in rough seas anymore so if things are looking a little iffy, i reschedule and hope for a better day next time. and as such i tend to get out less these days...
