NOAA NDBC Buoys show surface temps at the area 15 miles SE of Rockaway Point and the area 30 miles S of Islip, NY are down 8-10 degrees from last week.
Tried today. Would say unfortunately think it ’s over water is 66 degrees everywhere. Pretty sure I saw one Mahi. But that was it. Caught a few false albacore.

Question for anyone who has fished for mahi for longer than just this season (it's my first season I previously solely fished for bass/blues/fluke):
Is the water typically this cold this time of year?
I keep hearing that October is usually the best month for mahi in NJ, especially inshore of the canyons. I thought that mahi liked warmer water though so I'm wondering is the water in October typically warmer than what it looks like we're heading for?
Thanks in advance!
