Not exactly sure why but we experienced a spike in traffic and new registrants here lately... Yes it's the summer and we usually have a spike but this is much more of a spike then we usually have and now it's out pacing our group Facebook page...

So, what do you all attribute this to?
- More people at home with more time on their hands
- People tiring of regular social media sites

I'd be interested in opinions here so what do you all think?

I think more people are getting into fishing or getting back into fishing to get out and away from pandemic and political news cycles. And to get away from their wives and kids after 5 plus months of isolation and honey do items lol. Then they're googling keyword terms like "fishing NJ" or "fishing in new jersey" or "nj fishing sites", and lo and behold... bam! SEO at its finest leading folks to njf.

The site has been around so long and provides new content daily. These are things Google rewards you for organically in regards to keyword search terms. When they get here and poke around they quickly realize the value and register.

That's my 2 cents anyway lol...

50 million plus people have filed for unemployment over the last 2 to 3 months. For those still employed, work rules have changed where most are working from home. Every major sporting event that has any games being played is without fans. People are essentially still locked in their homes and have to do something and being at home they're not restricted surfing the internet as they were at work. And that to what Jigman said about SEO and you have your answer.

Even the boat sales are through the roof. Boating and fishing are the ultimate social distance activities 🤪

More people have time on their hands plus you run a good site that stays on focus. NJ fishing is why I joined and stayed, I don't care about other peoples' opinions on anything but fishing when I am on this site.

Too much political BS from both sides on Facebook...not that this site is completely without that but at least it's 99% fishing here.

Thanks for all the kind words on the site. We do have a great group of people here and we try to keep it friendly and on topic with the help of all of you.

And yes, the Search Engine Optimization gets us a lot of viewers. In fact, looking at our google analytics our traffic is 48% direct and 47% organic. Direct means people come directly to the site either by typing in the URL or from their book marks and organic means they do a search and we come up and they click through from the search engine.

It does make sense that there are a lot more people fishing and that makes me happy since this great sport of ours has many more benefits then just catching fish.

Thanks to all who contribute here and call it home. Without all of you this site wouldn't be where it is today and the support, experience and encouragement is a big part of that and passing it along to others.

Tip of the cap to you all!

sorry, a bit late to the game here gerry, but i think i saw that there were 400+ viewing the saltwater fishing section maybe a month or two ago. thought maybe it was an error but i guess not! imo the major reason is that so many other activities (sports for example... playing/watching) were shut down. fishing, for the most part, was not. the wwweb, and this site in particular (the best!), is a great resource for information. getting out of the house and away from wife/kids for some peace of mind was probably a huge factor too. and finding a nice spot on a piece of shoreline to cast ain't all that expensive either!
