heading to Cape May in August. Would love to hit the surf for some flatties or whatever is running at the time. Anyone familiar with the area? Just looking for some general areas that may produce and any local tips.

Thanks!

Following...I'll be there Labor Day weekend and looking to do the same. Usually go to Cape May Point and have seen people fish the groins there and do OK, but never actually tried myself. Good luck!

Check out the Cape May Point jetties on Google
maps. You’ll find small flounder, weakfish, kingfish, croakers, and snapper bluefish along that stretch of beach. Bloodworms and small hooks catch a lot. Small bucktails and teasers will catch the flounder, trout, snappers, and maybe a small striped bass. A 7’ spinning rod (3/8 - 3/4 oz) is plenty.

Hands Too B&T on the north side of the Cape May bridge (on the right going south) is your go-to local surf fishing shop.

Ditto on CMP. Pick a Jetty and try 3-4 inch gulp shads Dragging minnows work well also. Don’t overcast. Most fluke are next to the rocks. Or right at your feet in close

Beaches are pretty slow in August in cape May.

Usually very small kingfish, croakers and fluke. However the inlet where the ferry leaves could hold some keeper fluke and blackfish. Always seems to be sharks mostly small but an occasional brown.

They go nutz over these sand fleas that you dig out of the sand down here in NC, seems like they catch everything on them. Just dead stick them.
