Has anyone fished Porgy between Sandy Hook and Verrazano Bridge ?

I normally catch porgy there during this time of the year but didn’t see any last weekend.

Appreciate any report on that.

Thanks

I got one in a crab trap in the Navesink last week off Middletown.

They are definitely around but in specific areas. They are now being caught in the deeper/further out areas but that should change as the summer wears on and they should come closer inshore.

Never understood why these fish are all over LI Sound and New England starting in late April, and stay there right into late fall, yet in the NY Bight, they don't show up in fishable numbers in the bays and rivers until August and into Sept, and are usually gone from the bays by October, while they are still bailing them close inshore in the bays in New England...bob

This is true. From all indications, it should be a good porgy fishing year. Maybe not the bonanza of the past 3 years, but still good. I’d love another year like 2018, when not only the quantity, but the quality was incredible! Basically, that summer (and especially in September) we got the porgies that normally are on the east end of Long Island. Huge dinner plate sized humpbacks were the norm.

Had them to 17.5" on 007's & 017's with light spinners NE of Tin Can two weeks ago. Same last Sunday only smaller - 14-15" including some Spanish macks.
