Looking for an easy, simple to throw cast net.

What net size and mesh size is recommended for spearing, peanut bunker, mullet (Not looking for a net for adult bunker at this point) ?

The bigger the better. I have an old 4 footer that I practiced and was proficient at throwing and landing fully open. BUT woefully too small to catch any bunker in Raritan Bay last Saturday despite a dozen throws almost along side the boat. Its sinks too slow for only 8 feet of encirclement. aka hits the water and they get out from under it before it sinks around them.

Bigger nets take more practice and don't waste your money

Depends where you plan to use it .
Off a jetty or inside docks . The one hand throw 6’ FITEC with the throw ring is tough to beat .
.
But everywhere else I throw a 10’ . I want to throw one time and be done .
Throwing a 20’ circle gets its done quick .

Bigger nets are EASIER to throw than small ones are .

Most bait 3/8” mesh is fine , but if your hoping to cast net spearing you should go down to 1/4” mesh.

Betts nets are great for the money

I agree that FITEC Cast Nets are great. I have 4' and 6' nets. They're easy to throw and work well for small bait/snappers.

Mainly off my dock/bulkhead in my backyard but also plan on using it in MI when the mullet run along the wall.

If you really want to net spearing, the Bett's Super Pro 3/16"
either size - I have both sizes. Spearing swim through the holes of many other nets even the quarter inch
Fitec signature makes a 3/16" but I have not had one yet.
Fine mesh and sinks fast
It is heavy but catches everything - if you want to catch plenty of spearing.

I have a lighter/cheaper net for when mullet run fast down the surf that is easier to throw far

Exactly what he said. that 3/16" mesh is a game changer for spearing. Although it's hard to beat 2 teenage sons and a 50ft sein net.

I loved seine netting my own bait when I was younger (and would love it today) but I need a second person.

Bought a Percy Cast Net years ago...and still going strong. TANKS Not cheap but if you want quality and longevity you pay....well worth it.

Here's his web site....http://www.percycastnets.com/

It may be worth a call. Hope he's still in business. Talk to him and he'll advise you at no charge and won't let you leave his house until you throw a "donut" everytime.

Second that motion for Percy!! I have one for adult bunker and 1 for peanuts. If you jack them up he’ll repair them as well. You can either pick up at his house or he’ll send to you for cost of shipping. Give him a call and detail exactly what you’re trying to accomplish. He’ll hook you up.

Percy is still making nets.If you want spearing you need a glass minnow net-not cheap!! For bunker a 10' net that opens to 20' with enough rope to circle the school is all you need. I can throw a 12' and i am almost 70 lol Percy will give free lessons in his back yard. Technique more than strength!! Percy nets .com. There is even an old video of the Cathy Sea with Percy and my crew netting bunker than live lining some big bass.

Percy nets are excellent.
If you net spearing I agree that 3/16" mesh is better. They're pricey but worth the investment. They also are great for smaller peanuts. (Ever pick 185 gilled little bunkers out of a 3/8" mesh net? Not fun)

A glass minnow net is way smaller than 3/8 and the spearing will not gill.It is almost like a stocking but expensive but worth it!
