I would think local towns will still be able to make their own calls so they could decide not to re open the specific parks which they control.

Sandy Hook is a national park so the feds have to announce it open.

It was closed only because of the NJ governor - he close the road approaching it so then Gateway National closed the park.

Let's hope the feds open it. Most local beaches will not allow fishing yet.

and oh...

pretty sure I can find some quiet beach at sandy hook - social distancing will not be a problem

they will likely close the parks when lots are half full

Hopefully I’ll now be able to access my bluefish spots on the Manasquan.

Sandy Hook is a federal park Murphy has no authority over. Only Island Beach State Park is a State Park on the Atlantic side. The other beaches are town or county controlled.

Remember Christie's 4th of July sitting letting NJ's one and only state controlled beach stay closed, because he would not let the Insurance companies get a rebate promised by the legislature?
Leonardo was another one but on SH Bay.

My guess is Rammi will be out at Sandy Hook throwin' Cajun Red for dem bluefish ! :D

I took a trip to my spot in sea bright this evening and the light up signs coming up to the highlands bridge stated that SANDY HOOK PARK CLOSED I dont know if they were anticipating the opening of parks this Saturday but that's what the sign stated this evening

Sandy Hook is set to open next Saturday May 9 with restrictions: parking at 50 %,no swimming or group activities. Fishing will be allowed as long as social distancing is observed.

Live in West Orange. South Mountain reservation opened back up today. There were no lack of large electronic road side signs stating parks open, mandatory compliance to current safety regulations in place and masks required to access parks and trails. Every lot was packed and I mean absolutely over flowing with cars being how nice a weather day it was and everyone jonesing from cabin fever. At least 50% of people were walking in groups, side by side without masks. This is the reckless behavior that will get parks shut down again before you can blink and everyone will be bitching. Say what you want but parks are a public resource and no one idiot reserves the right to risk people's lives while using that resource for their own enjoyment while ruining it for everyone else. Absolute morons.

Saw the same thing by the GAP today .
Hundreds of people parked on the road because Federal parks are still closed .
Well over half , walking in groups no masks .
Ranger vehicles watching the whole thing .

I’m sure reports that went back to Trenton were not positive ones ..

Did you really think that with people under the shelter at home directive for 6+ weeks...and when we finally get decent weather people wouldn’t go out...or did you think they’d say to themselves’ “oh maybe I should stay home some more “.

I fished the PP Canal and a few others spots along the shore today and really did not see large crowds or gatherings of people.

Everyone expected people to go out ..
But at least follow the social distancing mandates and wear a mask until this crap passes .

Places I passed today showed the same disregard for everyone that the kids showed on spring break last month .

Give me a break. Nicest weather we have had in weeks and they opened the flood gates. Of course everyone was going to go out, and of course there were going to be crowds. Look at Cali and Florida. If they shut us back down, it will only happen again when they reopen us. This disease is not going to just go away, but it can be weened out. It will take time, but you can't keep people locked up forever. Have to hope everyone does their part.

To answer your question, no I expected the crowds. My post as Dan mentioned was directed at completely ignoring all safety precautions, actually mandates, which will result in two things. Further spread of the virus and lock down again. As I said, everyone has the right to go out, no one has the right to go out and potentially infect and cause others severe health risks or worse because they believe the rules don't apply to them. If idiots continue to ignore common sense practices, we'll be in lock down again within a week and everyone is $#&@?!.

Again Capt reread Dan and my posts. No one is arguing opening things up. What were commenting on is what was witnessed today which is absolute irresponsible behavior by people no using social distancing mandates or wearing masks. This thing flares up again because people can't follow simple rules, be prepared to not cast your lines this year because at the first sign the public is not following safety protocols they're going to lock this up again and we're all screwed. Remember one attorney in NY was linked to more than 60 people being infected and quarantining an entire town. You think it's a good thing seeing spring break type behavior, be prepared to lose your entire season. Gerry mentioned in an earlier post what he wants is freedom of choice. What comes with freedom of choice is responsible behavior and what happened today in many places was anything but responsible behavior.

I visited three county parks yesterday in Monmouth County:
Bayshore: @ 7:10 am . the fishing pier was still closed but fishing on the beach is permitted. I saw 5-6 anglers on the beach probably 60 plus feet apart.
Holmdel Park: @ 1 pm. just drove through with my spouse. lots of people but it's pretty spacious so no issues with social distancing that we observed.
Thompson Park: @2 pm, another drive trough. more crowded but again no obvious issues.lots of people safely enjoying the day.

I remember not long ago the poster who touted fishing on a beautiful day with no concerns about the virus. Think his post said something along the lines of all data pointing to the virus subsiding, 400 cases and going down, down down every day based on published reports which was a lie and if you discount the number of deaths in the nursing home in Washington nationwide deaths will top out at less than 200 from all other parts of the country. A month later we're at 67,000 confirmed deaths in the US with I'm sure many more unreported and 1.2 confirmed cases.

In one month when our typical Memorial Day Holiday officially opens the summer months for shore communities, if there's not a quick testing protocol, vaccination or treatment in place prepare yourself for the inevitable and mark this post.

Hordes of people are going to descend on shore communities and if you think clubs and beaches are going to maintain social order and teenagers will be wearing masks in 80 degree weather I don't see it happening. It didn't happen during spring break, it won't happen up and down the coast. We're going to witness chaos like Michigan just did with protests and civil disobedience.

I believe it's a good thing opening communities back up to see what reactions it prompts from public behavior in preparation for summer months but if enforcement of safety precautions doesn't exist this is going to turn into a shit storm and the damage done to shore communities, economies in general and essentially everything will be unprecedented. Now roll that scenario forward to Thanksgiving and imagine being quarantined for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'll post pictures later today of what's happening in the area I live with people ignoring safety precautions and challenge anyone to question the safety risks it causes throwing caution to the wind. Like I said I'd love to see 60,000 people in a park if space accommodated them based on distancing measures but when less than 50% are without masks it creates a major health risk we don't need right now.
