With the cold wind and rain yesterday I wasn't expecting much but I was lucky to get one that hit on mussels. My plan for today was some back bay Bass fishing but I tried for some Flatties again and caught the skunk. I'm hoping to give it another try tomorrow.

Marine park red bank used to be a great early season spot in March in the 80s. Such a long time ago.

Wish we had the fishery in Shark river we once had .
But unless they dredge all the parking lot silt from the entire river that area will never be able to hold the fish it once did .

Was the official spring kick off .

Whatever happened to flounder near PP Hospital?
Haven’t fished there in 35 years.

Some of the very best flounder occurred in the rivers , years back ! Shrewsbury and Navesink along with BB . On a tide u fill a cooler if u so desired !
It’s tough today however u can still catch them in RB while striper fishing !

I grew up right on RB, as a kid we would catch flounder on 3/0 hooks with worms meant for stripers. Some of them were 17-18 inches. Aaahhhh the good old days.

There are still areas in the back that get pretty stacked up with flounder. No one puts in the time bc of the 2 fish limit. I poked and prodded last fall with success after a few scouting trips. Zero other anglers seen which was quite nice!

Don’t forget fishing for them outside the restricted area off the Naval Pier, Romar Shoal & The Cedars

I gave it a try this morning. Nothing doing for me but I had to leave early. It was good to get out this weekend and all the best and good luck to all this coming season.
