Sat 2/15:

Headed out to the bitter cold after the big temp drop. Bounced around a bit, with absolutely nothing to show for it. Was going to be a day that you had to work for them. I settled on a stretch of water I hadn't hit in a while. I ended up fishing and hiking for a bit, when I came to a pool and saw a few rainbows mulling around. I presented various lures to no avail. Finally, I found a jig they wanted and I hooked my first fish of the day. I only had him on for a few seconds before he spit the hook, and my jig ended up in a tree. In frustration, I yanked back and to my horror the rod broke right above the first guide. Great. I'm 25min from the car, with a broken rod, and I finally found fish. Well, I guess I'd just have to make due. I managed to be able to make some short casts and began drifting lures through the pool. After a few casts, I hooked up on the stump of a rod and landed a decent bow.

I had one more spot I wanted to hit, so I put my ultralight on a heavier rod I had in the car and tried another pool. It paid off with a nice 21 inch bow.

Sun 2/16:

Hit a spot in PA. Was quality over quantity, but I'll take it!

Nice trout, JD. Sorry about the rod , hope its fixed up now.
Hope this weekend shapes up with a better bite with the fairer weather.

Wow jd bummer to hear that you broke your rod but you stuck it out and landed a couple of nice fish. no broken rod is going to stop you from getting some fish, way to get-er-done.

Last Saturday was tough for sure. Way to stick a few despite the slow fishing! :D
