A friend of mine, the best kind of fishing buddy you can ever have, is in need of some prayers...Mikey was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and is now resting at home in Hospice care.
Mikey is the sort of old school fishermen who walked to the rip on the beach for Stripers before anyone knew what a Striper was and I'm glad I joined him one night walking the beach with him... A night I'll never forget.
Later in life when we got our first boat he schooled us on how to eel at night complete with a can of sand, which we'd put the eels in so we could grab and hook those slimy devils.. Funny how it's those small details you remember...
A man among men and a family man who always gave more then he got and true friend and compatriot who loves to fish... As a Matter of fact, fishing was one of his few indulgences for himself that could pry me and him to sneak away from our other obligations.
Please keep my long time buddy and partner in crime "Lightening Mike" and his wife Kate and family in your thoughts and prayers...
Going to see him again Saturday so please pray for him and me too for the right words to say to give him comfort.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Prayers to him and his family. What to say will come to you while you’re there and spending time with him is the best gift you can offer. Dig down and say the things you tell a good friend so he knows how much your friendship really meant.

Gerry walk into his house like your getting ready to go on a fishing trip. Bring your friend a piece of his favorite pie or cake, maybe even a cheeseburger. Enjoy the moment the best you can with your partner in crime although it’s going to be hard. Be strong even when it hurts. Smile and think about the good times! Thoughts and prayers to Mikey, Kate and you Gerry.

Gerry, we are all blessed with those Special people who have made our lives better, the memories of them are the thing that makes you smile, even when the times get tough. Godspeed to your friend and a fellow fishermen.

thoughts and prayers for your friend, Gerry. it's extra tough when it's someone who has had such a profound effect on your life. maybe you can bring him something to make him smile or leave something by his bedside as a nice memory you both once shared. may we all walk the beach again, rod in hand, someday in the afterlife...

Mikey, Kate and you are are in my prayers and thoughts. Fast Eddie is absolutely right, just be yourself and everything will be fine. Being there is way more important than what you say. He'll find comfort in your presence. Sounds like a great guy you had the fortune of meeting in life as he had the same fortune meeting you. That's really all that matters, you'll find the right words my friend. Let him know you're there for him and any support his family might need, after all that's what matters most to all of us.

Gerry, May God give Mike, his family the strength to get thru this most difficult time. Seeing a GOOD friend will also ease his pain and give him a smile.-----Mike
