I asked this on the freshwater board on the Passaic River thread but thought I'd get more feedback from the saltwater members.

So, with good numbers of school-sized stripers in the Passaic and Hackensack River systems, is there any research information about the migration patterns of these fish? I have to assume that some of them eventually make it to Newark Bay, Arthur Kill, and Raritan Bay. Is there any info on whether they join the Hudson River migration or do they just hang around in the NY Bight all year? is anyone tagging any of these stripers? Have there been any tag returns?

To reply to my own question, I looked at some tagging data from the Littoral Society from a few years ago. A couple of striper tags were returned from the Hackensack River. They came from striped bass that were tagged (1) in the Navesink and (1) in the Shrewsbury. The locally tagged Shrewsbury and Navesink stripers wind up all over the coast from Massachusetts to Maryland.
