Headed to Portland for business tomorrow and will have a couple hours to myself Wed. Morning. My hotel is in downtown Portland right on the Willamette River. Was wondering it it was worth it for me to bring my travel rod to sneak in a few hours of fishing. I know the River holds smallmouth, salmon, even sturgeon in that stretch but not sure what, if anything, would be biting this time of year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if the advice is to just leave the pole at home and sleep in Wed.

Never fished it but I have fished the Columbia a few times. I think winter is a good time for sturgeon in the Willamette. But it would probably be difficult to catch them from shore. PM if you want the name of a great guide there.

I Wish I could! Unfortunately I get in late Tuesday night, have meetings from 12-6 pm wed., then a 7 pm blazers game and directly to airport to catch 11:30 pm red eye back. Straight from Newark airport to office Thurs. morning. Pretty grueling schedule, which is why sleeping in wed. Morning may be my most rewarding option.
