sadly, for a lot of those "spike" size Ling, they just get gobbled up.. Dogs eat everything and anything, and from what I have been reading they are epecially fierce this year.. One of the problems we have in the modern age is the fact that we as human beings like to catch and eat the natural cold water predators of Dogfish Cod, Pollack, Wolffish north of NY.. Jeez even Monkfish will eat dogfish, but they are under pressure as well these days..
I remember years ago during winter trips, it was a big deal if someone caught a dogfish,,, These days, its all out of balance. and I don't know how it reverses without something holding down the numbers of dogfish, but unless they are caught with nets, there's not much out there to hold them back.. bob

Make sure to throw dogfish back dead. They will be eaten.

I remember fishing for whiting and the dogs were all over them as you reeled up. They were big too, 3-4 fters. They tend to be around as long as there is prey....

I don't think they meant red marks on your ding-a-ling Jmurr, but at your size I'm shocked you can still see it.
