Canyon Report
Striped Bass Marathons Trips & Night Blues for the weekend.
We had some good action at times on our Canyon tuna trip Tuesday into Wednesday.
When we first arrived at the Canyon we made a few stops to
try for mahi-mahi. We caught several but it didn't look like it
was going to be too crazy so we immediately switched over to
tuna so we would not miss any afternoon bite.
We anchored up and it did not take long before tuna began
schooling under the boat. We hooked a number of fish and
landed several into sunset, and then action slowed.
With the amount of fish we read under the boat I had
expected to catch fish through the night.
We only had a few tuna bites during the night but,
did land two swordfish and released two others.
It was quiet until about an hour before sunrise and the screen
went from blank, to full of tuna under the boat, from 50' to 250' down.
It was chaos for a while, where we landed a number of tuna
and lost as many. As the sun came up the action slowed again.
For the next 2 hours schools of tuna would periodically come
under the boat and one or two would bite.
It was a mix of mostly longfin with some yellowfin.
The tuna weighed up to 70 lbs.
We have one more 31-hour trip scheduled for a Thursday
departure November 7th at 7:00AM and 22hr trips sailing
8PM November 10, 17, 24.
