Hit the bay with the light rods and the light topwater plugs and once we found the bait it was non stop for 2 hours into dark. Water was 61 and surprisingly clean. Most fish from 18 to 26 inches but pops had a big bass tail slap the hell out of his popper and didn't come back. Good start to the season!!!

Same results as last evening but there are bigger fish moving in. Bass blowing up peanuts around the boat. Bent all the damn hooks on the small poppers. Time to break out the bigger plugs with the single siwash hooks to keep the releases simple.

Having experienced that, my small topwaters (both walk the dog and popping) receive 4x Gamakatsu treble hooks with the barbs removed. Topwaters larger than 1 oz. typically get VMC single replacement hooks (belly hook faces down, tail hook faces up).

Agreed I crush the barbs of my trebles right out of the box on my light cheap plugs. Bigger plugs are all dual single hooks.
