hey all, hitting the NJ surf again tonight for some fishing. I noticed the wind is going to be NE at 5-10mph. I've heard the fishing usually isn't very good on an east wind, but last week I did ok on a S/SE wind (which again i know is very different). Going fishing no matter what as I don't have a lot of free time these days, but curious to know others thoughts. Has an east wind been tough fishing for you in the past?

Im not sure where you got that info about E wind. But i think the ideal wind is a light NE when surf fishing. Once it starts cranking over 20 in any direction (outside dead W) i normally dont even bother unless its much later in the season.

in my opinion best to worst.

I like NE the best when targeting Bass. As long as it isn't raging the surf will stay relatively clean and the bait will push in. When we had clams in the surf the days following a Northeast storm were great. For Albies and Bonito I like Northwest. South wind is the worst for me. I think it should be good tonight, just might have to fish something heavier. Good luck.

Manasquan Inlet was full of bait (spearing, rain fish, mullet) this morning. At times they were being sprayed by spanish mackerel. With the forecasted NE wind the pocket on the north side of the inlet might be the place to be.

Thanks for the input all! I fished from 7:30 until 11:15 with nothing to show for it, but it was a beautiful night on the water regardless.

Sometimes it's very tough like that. Maybe they are still in the back bays and Creek mouths and you could reach them on kayak.
