Hit last 1.5 hrs of incoming, flood and 1.5 or so of out going yesterday morning in the back bay. 1/2 oz jig head and 5" gulp swimming mullets. Landed a dozen fluke. Dropped just as many but managed my limit--18.5, 19.5 and 21.5" fish. Also had about 6 cocktail blues.
$3 in fuel, $3.50 for jig heads and $7 for gulps to get a rare fluke limit. It's a beautiful thing esp b4 the season ends. Heres a sink shot before the filleting started. Gonna miss my back bay flatties!

I thought all the fluke were in 80 FOW on rough bottom, 5 miles off shore in the ocean?....

Apparently not. They're in 5 FOW 15 min from my house hahaha...

Nice catch. Shorebound angling the greater the challenge the sweeter the reward.

fished the back of the bay 9/15 sunrise to 10 am.
Live-lined mullet that most people assume are too big for bait.
caught a 27" bass, 5 blues, 10 fluke but only one barely keeper sized
fun to watch the incredible amount of mullet steaming by one foot from the waves. no peanuts there this time which was different

Are I've been fishing in RB has been loaded w peanuts and mullet. Do the mullets keep well in a 5 or 6 bucket w aerator? Tempted to load an aerated cooler out east to see how they work offshore for tuna

Oh yea. There are mullet here. Not the massive foot longs you see down south--more of the finger mullet sized here from 5-8".

Been doing the same thing with great success! Great job crackin’ a limit from the shorelines. Definitely a great feeling! The amount of bait right now is crazy! :D

As the season beats on we always get a showing of huge cob mullet off the beaches. That normally happens closer to end of October. They are just like the ones you see being caught/live lined in FL.
Two years ago watched some really nice size bass plow through them right in the wash. They wouldnt touch anything you threw out them and were moving way to quick to live line and pitch.

I’m never ashamed to say I learned something. All the years I fished N.Y./nj I never realized we had mullet. Go figure.

they stay alive in a bucket with an aerator if you do not over load it. I put like 10 at a time.
More importantly - they stay alive on a hook much longer than other baits like peanuts.
BUT- caught more keeper fluke the previous weekend on live peanuts from shore
