left friday night on my 1st tile trip ever.was not sure what to expect but i figured after all these years why not give it a try.left at 10pm,started fishing at 6:30am and had first blueline at 6:45.i jigged the entire 2 days and man was it fun.used 16oz jig with a dropper about 20inches above it.started with gulp and
they were trashing it every time down.as the day went on the gulp slowed so i switched to cut bait on the jig and dropper and was right back in the game.we fished 460' to 900ft through out the trip.we had goldens, bluelines & rosefish.the rose fish were thick and attacking the baits as soon as they were near the bottom.everything that i thought about tile fishing was wrong.i thought it was going to be like reeling a boot up in 1000ft of water, man was i wrong.they were
smacking that jig like the owned it and some.the bluelines were fighting right to the top in 540ft of water.lots of fun to say the least.if you have never been but are thinking about it just go you will not be disappointed.

IMO golden Tile fish is the best eating fish in the ocean .

Only thing close are Rock fish in Alaska.

Both are like eating a fillet of scallops.

And limits of Blue Line Tilefish went to what, 7 fish. We were catching them like porgies last time out. Did you hear ANYONE on here talking about Tilefish limits, HELL NO !! Glad you had a great time.

Congratulations on a great trip but my shoulders hurt just thinking about feeling a fish up from 900 feet:D

I’m glad you had a great time. That’s what it’s about

the reeling is not as bad as i thought it would be.i was using a saltist 40 on a 6.6
med heav rod and it did the job.they are very aggressive fish with no problem feeling the bites at all.they would hit the jig on the rise, fall and in between,i even squidded a few.

Bunker great report. I fished once for tiles on an offshore tuna trip years ago and surprisingly caught 7 golden's. Biggest was around 10 lbs. Always wanted to do a tile specific trip, your report might be what it takes. Glad you had an awesome trip with some great table fare to bring home. Good job, great report!

I had the same misconception about the tile fish game until
I finally but the bullet 3 years ago and now I too am hooked.
All of those deep drop fish are very aggressive and unbelievably
Tasty. Glad to hear you ha a great time and hopefully our paths
