I am looking into trying an offshore sea bass trip this winter on a party boat. I have a Maxel Hybrid 25 that I was going to try to use but I hearing mixed feeling about this reel for this purpose. Not sure if it will hold enough line because I am not sure of the depths fishing offshore for sea bass and my second concern I hear is that the reel is not a good choice to hold up to 24oz. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My buddy uses this model reel for tiles ! Most offshore SB is 180 to 220 or so , so capacity if your using 30 # , 40# braid no issue . I personally never needed over 16oz’s even that was rare , 10 - 12 oz is norm .

Thank you Captain Lou. That was the information I was looking for. I have 300 yards of 40lb braid on it so I should be in the ball park. Wow your friend does tile with this reel. I cant imagine him in anything over about 300-400 feet depending on the lead he is using.

I made an error my. Urdu uses 10 for tile ! Like Dan said I own several 25 N Penns my go to wreck reels Used them for over 5 seasons o issues !
The Maxel 25 is more than enough reel in both line capacity and drag to handle anything you will catch on offshore seabass trip
