I’m curious to find out views on
Should the catch be divided equally or should
Each customer keep his or her own catch?

I am a fair to good fisherman and I believe that share charters should be divided equal..... Share the expense share the catch.....

It is not a charter.Share your catch with a perfect stranger that maybe did not fish as hard as you? If you went on a PB to the canyon would you share your tuna? If you charter the whole boat with family and friends you absolutely share the catch.

I was always a shared catch kinda guy. Because the odds are in your favor since you never catch anything :D

On my charters they were all friends. But six strangers are wholly different.

Your fish are your fish. You paid. You caught it.. easy. Want to give away or not ... its your call (up to your legal catch limit).

Or fish attributed to mates on fish per angler boat count is different. Low hook anglers should get consideration by captain. The over limit catching angler has no say.

I've always gone with split the fish evenly. This view changed a little last season. One guy just wanted to drink beer all night. and another did not fish at all the entire night. He said he just likes sleeping on boats. I can let him sleep on my boat at the dock for $300.00 a night

Inshore 6-12 man trip, I have no problem sharing fish. I usually catch a lot and come home with less than I caught, but there are those days when I didn't do so good and it is nice to have that cushion to fall back on.

Maybe a more expensive offshore trip, with people like those described above I would probably think otherwise. But if I'm putting out more $ then I am probably only going with guys I know anyway.

If you were fishing for a species that has a limit on it, say Fluke or Seabass, do you stop fishing when you have your limit because you aren't sharing fish?

On a charter you split everything

I do open boat all the time and have no problem splitting the catch , happened yesterday 1 guy caught squat , no big deal

Sometimes you are on and catch everything and others all you do is donate to the reef

Regardless of how you feel always check with the captain and ask for the boat rules - regardless Inshore/offshore just make sure you know before you go

You do You and what you are comfortable with

Thanks for the replies
I’ve been on both open trips
I prefer sharing myself but as someone said it should be known
Before you start fishing what the rules are

The reason I asked was I was on a trip that I believed
Every one was sharing till the end when 3 guys walked off
With a double limit of fluke and the others shared and we got 2 each

I ask, are you really going to bring home fish and stock the freezer, or to spend a day out on the water? I get it could be a lot of $, but I go for the day out. I have no issue sharing.

Some days I have been the bug, some days I have been the wind shield.

Same here I agree with you but only half the guys shared
Which I thought sucked
