If the fluke fishing is slow for you this year you might want to give blow and king fishing a try. Yes you won't get those epic battles but the excellent table-fare makes up for it. :D

Barnegat? I'd love to get my kids into these as they're manageable and cool looking. That always helps keep them interested.

Rocky, wow does that bring back memories! Haven't seen that many blow fish in years and you're not kidding about how excellent they are as table-fare. Awesome report, great pics and I hope both fisheries continue there rebound. Great catch my friend!

Blowfish are cyclical so when they come in strong, they come in and take over. The fluke, crabs and other critters that dwell the bottom probably don't like it.

As you stated they are great table-fare and they are a excellent fish to freeze. It is nice to take a package of blowfish out of the freezer in Febuary to cook and it tastes as good as the day that you caught it.

How do you target these two different species?

Same as people keeping Bluegills and Crappie in freshwater.

How do you target these two different species?

2 hook bottom rig,, small hooks-A winter flounder rig is perfect... Actually, its identical to winter flounder fishing..
Clams, squid, sea worms for bait.. chumming will draw them in, just like flounder.

Beside the Puffers and Kingfish You will often catch Fluke, Sea Robins, Spike Weakfish, even small keepers around 16-17 inches,, Windowpanes, Snapper Blues, Porgies, Spot, Croakers some years, and even a small winter flounder here and there, and even a big eel once in a while, as well as some other tropical oddballs such as Pinfish or Sennets... i used to adore that type of fishing with fresh water tackle... bob

I've fishing the surf out front on LBI

There are kingfish everywhere

Buy a box of bloods and a kingfish rig, stand in the wash and cast out about 10 ft....hold the rod and move the weight every few seconds

and catch 20-30 kingfish in a few hours.

Best year for them that I can remember in a long time. Sand fleas work great as well.

Beware of the huge rays...

oh...all the kings are full of eggs. When they spawn there will be even more bait in the water.
