Yesterday, I made my first launch of the season out of Keyport BPM. I wasn't planning on fishing much, but decided to take a long a few trolling plugs. After shaking down the motor a bit, I stopped in a area that always produces early in the season. I set two rods outs with with small 10-15ft divers and it didnt take long for the first bite. The next 90 mins it was non-stop action with several double headers, easily landed over 15 fish. All the bass were small up to 22", but certainly fun and not expected. The water temps were 44-45 degrees and water color was a bit muddy, but not too bad.
Interesting though, when the schools of herring and gannets came in, the bass bite died.
It certainly appears the resident schoolies have started to feed.
Tight lines as fishing will only get better next week.

After seeing all of the bird life and having snagged bunkers with plugs last week, I kinda felt it was only a matter of time before someone would launch and get after the bass from a boat. Way to go Live 2! Watch out for that blue Contender. Freddy probably has the rods in the outrodders all ready to go.

Thanks for the good report. They're just about on time. Now with a little warmer water, the bigger ladies will show up.

We have been doing this for decades! No secret it is the same time every year.If you are a real fisherman you go out and find them on your own.Ever hear of a log book?As far s Johnny Bucktails goes he is a good fisherman.

I tried same area for about an hour n half this am. I was rewarded with my first keeper. A nice fat 33" female. I caught a couple more shorts, but not many readings. All fish caught on small plugs.
I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully more to report.
