We've seen 'em breaching in Raritan Bay but not of this size! Interesting read and history:

Very cool and thanks for sharing. Amazing the show they put on every spring in eastern Raritan Bay coming up out of the water and doing cartwheels. A
sight to be seen..

It's good to see that they are making a come back. One came very close to jumping into my Dad's boat while we where fluke fishing close to chapel hill channel. You can see them jumping there like crazy during the summer.

One jumped right in front of the tow boat while I was drifting fluke in front of the TC can last August.
The splash It made was very loud almost like a jet engine fell off a plane and hit the water.
Past several years I've see one jump east of Chapel Hill channel. But not that big… maybe 6-7 feet.

About 10-15 years ago I caught and tagged one on the Delaware river on bloods in early Spring. A couple years after that I fought a very, very large fish for over 20 minutes in the same river before it broke me off and I am sure it was a large sturgeon.

Doesn't surprise me... Keep your fish finder on in Raritan/Sandy Hook and you'll see critters as long as your boat swimming right where you are fluke fishing.. Probably some sharks and large rays in the mix, maybe even a 50 pound striper here and there, but a lot of those huge echoes are sturgeon... bob

I've fished them in the Columbia River in Oregon. Biggest I got was estimated 250 lbs. (catch and release) They fight well, pull line, jump etc.
