I wanted for atleast a couple of years start making my own jigs since 80 % of my blackfishing i do is jigging and I only buctail for fluke. Mind you this is my first batch and I still didn’t tie the main hair yet on the bucktails but so far so good. Best part is they cost about 60-75 cents a piece doing it myself!

Very nice. I am in the process of buying all the things needed to make my own jigs also (lead pot, Lee pro 20 melter, ladle, do-it molds, ingot pan, hooks, eyes, powder paint, skirts, lead) did I forget anything?

Haha I did a lot on amazon and local tackle shops.. right now I’m about $250 invested and $90 of that was just in the molds... believe it or not it’s the twine to wrap the hair that I’m waiting on... amazon says a few more days so we will see... You can get expensive as you want with a professional fly tying kit or do like me and use a vice and tie the bucktaiks by hand lol.. good luck ! All trial and error here... my first tip is instead of making several jigs at once then heating it up after and placing it in the paint, instead right after you mold one use heavy gloves ofcorse and break off the extra lead part then dip right into the paint... this way the jig is evenly heated and the coverage is much better..

Just remember, lead fumes are toxic. Make sure you are melting lead outdoors or in a well ventilated area away from people
