This question is for Captains:
Guys, I see that my question got 1,200 views but only one answer.
Looks like tons of fishermen want to go Cod fishing.
What do you think, Captains?
Thanks.

I will be hitting wrecks for cod/pollack on the way to
And from the tilefish grounds on open boat trips. Unless
you want to book the whole boat for cod wrecks only.

I could be wrong but I think the consensus is the cod fishing this year is in the dumps. Boats out of LI that usually crush cod during the winter were not even fishing during the month of February because the fishing was so tough. I'd jump on the Andreas Toy though and give it a shot before heading out and slaying some tiles.

There was an odd, small flurry of nice haddock caught out east this year. The cod...meh. Hasn't been consistently good out there in the winter for a few years now. A few trips are bail jobs but they're few and far between.
I'd rather wait until the summer if fishing out east and do bluefin / cod combo trips. The sea bass bycatch is an added bonus as well as the mongo porgies and pound plus cunners.

There are a few party boats out of Belmar and Point Pleasant that are catching Codfish on occasion but they are mostly targeting our species. Check the reports. Good Luck.
