Got this from facebook and wanted to share here... IMO it doesn't matter which side of this issue you're on, CG people need help.
Fishermen's Dock COOP in Point Pleasant Beach will be taking NON PERISHABLE food donations and/or gift cards for food/gas in $20 increments ( they cannot accept Visa GC. Must be shop rite, stop and shop, Walmart, target, things like that) for the Coast Guard Manasquan Station. DUE TO GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN. Fishermen friends, please spread the word, tag your friends in the comments, share this post. I'll have a box set up in our office on Channel Drive. Thank you in advance for supporting.

That's a really nice thing and you are correct, it really doesn't matter what side your on, the bottom line is people are struggling and need help.

Gerry, Do you know if any of the CG stations have kitchens to prep/serve meals on site?? I was thinking of putting together Spaghetti dinner supply boxes to feed 4 to 6 people and dropping them off at the Belmar and Manasquan stations.
Thanks Brad

Thanks for posting this.
I just contacted Fisherman's Dock to inquire about sending Gift Cards by mail. Anyone interested can mail Gift Cards to Fisherman's Dock, PO Box 1314, Pt Pleasant, NJ 08742.
I'm from North Jersey so I'm sending a few cards to help these poor people in their time of need.

I was part of the construction of that site. That building was built with a 500 year storm in mind and can self sustain for many days, it has an awesome kitchen.

It is outrageous that people are asking for donations to support members of the American armed forces! A pox on both their houses.

A follow up on my question about the station at Manasquan. I was there today and dropped off a box full of dry goods for the station pantry. I estimate it was enough for a good pasta dinner for 6 to 8 service men/women, plus extras like chili, canned veggies and even some microwave popcorn for snacks... I was greeted by a young petty officer that graciously accepted my donations and thanked me. I told him that I didn't deserve the thanks, That it was he and all his fellow CG service personnel that deserve my thanks, and that this was my small way of giving back to them.
