Finally Kicked my 2018 ice season off Wednesday. Got some time to burn at work so I left early and headed to budd. Fished from noon to 330 with one flag, it took fifty feet line and dropped it  headed back out this morning with skunk city headed out to woodport area and had a few flags and few small perch to show for it. Made a wiggle to a drop off we found with deepest being 14 feet water and couldn’t keep up with the tip ups, all nice big perch and a decent bucketmouth. I had one big bait swinging for the fence but no takers. FLAGGGG!https://i.postimg.cc/bd4FMNyM/DC1-B94-A2-0261-4-AEA-AF52-F42-C459-BBF62.jpg (https://postimg.cc/bd4FMNyM)https://i.postimg.cc/KK905mp0/1-B96-E346-972-B-4-B94-9311-5-BB03-AB40-C8-F.jpg (https://postimg.cc/KK905mp0)https://i.postimg.cc/fJ4BC25Q/B09780-BD-57-BC-42-BE-B2-AE-A983943-F0-CA0.jpg (https://postimg.cc/fJ4BC25Q)https://i.postimg.cc/0znn88v9/A8-DE93-AE-B6-A2-4-D69-BDD8-F308-F5-AB3-D39.jpg (https://postimg.cc/0znn88v9)

I drove past Budd around 4:00 yesterday and saw that someone had some holes on the ice. How thick was it?

The edges to like 40 feet out are a little thicker then the rest, the ice that was formed last week got torn up and piled up along the shore and refroze that’s stuff is like 4” once you get past that it was a little over 3” the rest of the way out....

Blah Blah Blah....

We had our fun even though chris and bryan had definitely more cojones than me ….. Stuck all day on our "safer" ice and had a field day messing with perch (biggest was a healthy 14), pickerel (biggest was pushing 26) some bass on smaller side (still swimming) and jigging for some bluefish....

Overall a good day to be out with a mix bag of fish coming in.

Well when their ass breaks through the ice their"cojones" are gonna be like marbles, that's if they survive. No fish is worth breaking through the ice. SMART move on your part, and you got some good fish

Rich,
Lol since I am on a heavier side, I just stuck to where I was comfortable. Knowing Chris he would never put himself in that position plus he got pretty solid Intel regarding ice conditions from us.
Then again all being said we all know that there is no such thing as safe ice and precautions we're taken by all. Overall good times had by all.

Nice bucket mouth catches you stacked up by the way...

Tight lines.

A friend of mine lives in the Adirondacks on Long Lake and posted Facebook photos of them snowmobiling on Long Lake earlier this week. That's about a 4 1/2 hour drive from northern NJ though
