going to stop? So tired of 20 to 30 knots regardless of direction with a 12-18 hour decease to 15 to 25 knots---not that there's an abundance of tuna:rolleyes: lots of squid and blue sharks though...still have 4 scheduled trips but I seriously doubt any will come to fruition-due either to weather or major lack of interest....never been this bad weather-wise or fishless-wise...Shall we pin our hopes on next year or join the U.S. Olympic drinking team?:eek::rolleyes: Very depressed at this point...

Was just telling my wife it looks like my one trip this year is going to get blown out.

Guess I’ll find a boat that’s doing some bottom fishing.

Nope. When was the last good chunking season? I dont mean a few good trips here and there, but a solid Sept Oct like years ago? looks like I'll be selling off the chunk gear and getting on a 6 pack trolling charter in June/July/Aug in the years to come....

join the U.S. Olympic drinking team?:eek::rolleyes: .

Probably not going to hook that big swordfish on a trolling trip in July.
What keeps people coming back year after year ? To fish during the fall at night in the canyons is something to behold. :)

Not sure people will be catching that big sword fish regardless of when they're fishing if we don't learn from our mistakes. Read the attached article:

https://www.bigmarinefish.com/swordfish.html

Slightly older article but same issue, commercial over fishing, harvesting smaller sexually immature fish before they can repopulate the stock and dead discard of pups not eligible for market by long liners. The statistics are alarming, in particular 83% of the fish harvested before reaching sexual maturity. Translated 17% of the biomass needs to sustain the fishery, that sounds improbable if not impossible. None of these fisheries will survive if the biomass isn't allowed to reproduce and exceed harvest annually, very simple formula. The data is there, but decisions like the fluke fishery aren't being made based on the data. They're being made based on stand alone agendas and funded by commercial lobbying efforts.

Pennsy -
Now you know why I invested in some solid surf gear last year. Been having fun with the inshore fishing. Now, what the hell do I do with my 3 Custom Calstar Blank Tuna and Sword Rods all fitted with sweet 50's 50W & 50 TLD - LRS. Well, they have the length for trolling for sure and have used them for that. Maybe I'll just keep them for the few random trolling trips I go on. Don't worry about the wind. It probably will save you thousands of dollars and avoid poor results. I'm personally waiting for the late fall bite - when it's mostly longfins.

So bummed. Was scheduled to fish on the gambler 10/12 - blown out. Rescheduled to tonights' trip - blown out again. Now I'm on the 11/7 trip. Really just want to give this a try once before it gets too cold.

Did you get a call from Jill? Has Capt. Bob definitely cancelled?

Not unexpected, but I'm still bummed out. Already have the days off, guess its time for some inshore fishing.

Rough ride out, rough overnight, calmed down a bit this morning.

No tuna caught, no one even had a run off. No life other than a few birds.

I won the pool with a 6 lb golden tilefish.

It's a wasteland out there right now.
