just wondering if anyone can let me know if the blues are up and pushing bait most early mornings at the tip of sandy hook..
Have been thinking about getting down there before daybreak within the next week or so, [which means leaving here at 1 am], fishing till maybe 11 am and getting out of dodge before the parking lots - 36/9/287/78/31 -fill up for the afternoon.
a few schoolie bass would be great as well, but I would like to get down there at least once in my own boat for blues before it gets too cold, and thats where I would concentrate my efforts.. any first hand accounts would be welcome, and PM's are fine if you don't want to be specific. not looking for "hot spots", just general information.. thanks in advance... bob

Understood, but its 225 miles each way for me to AH ramp, and I would rather have solid some first hand intel before heading down .. Typically this time of year morning blitzes of smaller blues at the point of the hook are a daily occurance, but there exceptions of course, and my only source of information is here and there are those that are out there a LOT and can enhance my chances of hitting it right with some solid observations from anglers that have been on scene... bob

Out there last tuesday Bob and so were the blues. No big ones but we stayed on them for a few miles thanks to the birds. Kept 10 or so 2 to 3 lbs, for the table(2 guys) then dropped anchor for the Porgys. If we wanted to we could have caught many more if we kept following the birds and busting bait south. Ava 27 or crocs were used but im sure any metal would have worked. Good luck.

We already know you live 5000 miles away and takes 24 hour drive to just go fishing @ Jersey shore
No, a lot of guys here are regular Joe's with a life that aren't on this forum all that much, and might not have seen many of my posts over the years. Many are willing to cheerfully help a guy out rather than troll him with nasty comments.
I never could understand why you choose to act like a sub moron on my posts, but hey the First Amendment is a really good thing.
It just might be more productive to find a more suitable outlet for your anger than a fishing forum with a lot of genuinely nice guys that contribute regularly, and are kind enough to help other members out when they can... bob

Well put.... We all have bad days, so lets hope this is the last time you get this kind of response. We can all agree to disagree without being sarcastic. Put my foot in my mouth on more than 1 occasion. Back to fishing. There is alot of bait around, mullet / rainfish presently and it will not be long before the peanuts starting pushing out of the back. Big pushes of those should start soon usually a few days either side of the full moon. Pick a day when conditions are suitable for the size boat you have and try to avoid days when the wind is blowing from the south, southeast.

Guys were elbow to elbow all day at the tip today, Sunday. Looked like Albies.

Thanks to all, had some nice conversations on PM too.. Much appreciated!
I go only on weekdays so the sub idiots that go screaming through schools of active feeding fish are much less of a problem.
Never could understand it, after all these years, but it happens as much today as it did 40 years ago.
The albacore this year seem pretty widespread from the surf into the bays and even around Staten Island and north from what guys have told me, and I know they are getting some in the Mud hole..
Not sure they will be around when I get down to AH probably sometime after the 22nd or 23rd of this month, but I am sure there will be enough blues around to make a nice day of run and gun fishing, following fish busting on top.. I haven't done that in well over a year, and always enjoy it...
I might take a guy from the Finger Lakes fishing forum, most of those guys have NO idea what salt water fishing is like.. They get all atwitter over a 3 pound brown trout, which is a nice enough catch, but have no idea a 13 inch Bluefish hits and fights a LOT harder... bob

You can easily check water temps., tides and winds, I think that is a bigger factor than if the fish are "biting" or not. Keep a log book. Gonna honk outta the NorthWest on Wednesday, 30+ knots.

Fished the bay yesterday. Did not see the large pods of bait I saw only a few days ago. Left and went to Sandy Hook. Caught a fish on practically every other cast. Small cocktail blues - a few fluke - and some big shad/herring - like 2lbs each. Lots of guys fishing. Did not see a single albie in 3+ hours. Heard a few were caught in the am. No stripers.
