The Gambler just got back from a 36 hour trip. Lots of action with beautiful weather.
About half way out, Capt Bob spotted a huge weed line. We stopped and had some excitement on mahi and a few almaco jacks.
We then made a drift near a sunken wreck in 250 ft. Guys were jigging and baiting. We pulled some big pollock and some big white hake before moving on to fishing pot gear for a good mess of mahi that ranged from 5 to 15 pounds.
Before the sun went down, we set up near the eastern edge of the Hudson, in a nice temperature break. During the night, we wrestled with extra big squid, blue sharks and and more mahi that swam through our slick. Just before dawn, big schools of small bluefin invaded our baits, causing some fun mayhem. No keepers but they kept us busy.
After the sun came up, we picked up a few 50 lb yellow fin and a couple 30-40 lb longfin.
Late in the day, we got a report of yellowfin and little tunny inshore. We ran in there and caught a few tunny and a big bull shark but did not see any of the yellows.
Seldom a dull moment.
Edwin Ortiz caught a 40 lb Longfin, two 20 lb pollock, six 8 to 10 lb mahi, two dozen huge squid and four 8 - 10 lb white hake.
Looking forward to our next trip. Check our site for openings
