Wednesday Gambler 36 hr trip? If you can believe the NOAA forecast, it's going to be almost perfect, weather-wise. Water temps all over the Hudson look good, couple small breaks but it's way early for that. Anxious to read the report from this 24hr trip---hope it'll be a good one...Totally can't wait to hopefully get a bent rod. Been a too long wait since last November...Chucky

I am :D
Capt Mike had the gambler out. Just heard from him. Lot's of life out there, water looks great, but only one yellowfin. Plenty of mahi. Some small bluefin released.
I'll be taking her back off tonight at 6
Look forward to see you Weds, Chuck

Also, we have room on our 24 hour canyon trip, leaving Monday night. Call Jill at 732-295-7569. Please be patient with her --she has been making the run offshore and it might take up to 24 hours to get back to you.

cancelled because of other reasons, weather, or lack of tuna around. if cancelling because lack of tuna, you have to give the capt credit for cancelling. the fish just are not on the chunk yet - spread out, some 6 packs are getting them on the troll only, but not a bunch.

Sorry to hear BW...Early season trips this year were hard to fill..From now on about 100% of trips are sold out so all will go---weather permitting. My first trip was cancelled so I told Jill to forward the money to the 11/6 24hr trip & I'm on the Halloween trip and the 11/13 trip. When it breaks open, those trips will fill fast...they all produced last year---yea, I know, that was last year.....

water temps - from what i could tell outside of cloud cover appears to be TOO warm for tuna ON THE CHUNK. mid + 70's with little temp breaks = not good for chunking - fish spread out still. wishing for a change soon, especially for your 36 hour!

Joe, just checked the Hudson area...69.3 @ the tip to 74.6 in the deep. Jones tip 71.6-same @ the deep. Flats--E=71.3, W=69.9...we shall see.

Water temps not a big factor here. IMO the tuna respond to the sun levels and weather patterns when they go into “fall mode”. Temps matter more when they get too low and disappear. Also not helping is the boats haven’t been out in force training them to feed on the chunk. That does make a difference. Also the tuna appear to be very scattered now but that can change very quickly this time of year.

Not getting into a pissing match here but if the temps are flat every where like they were several years ago, sails and marlin were caught well inshore--in sight of AC..private boat I fished on caught an 80# yellowfin 3 miles off AC...normally, we get eddys breaking off the stream but it doesn't seem to be yet this year so no great temp breaks...and as stated before, if they're there they will stay if the temps change gradually over the course of, say, a week.... we shall see this Wednesday...

BW, I'm really sorry about cancelling the Monday trip. I know what it's like to be stoked about going fishing. We tried calling everyone we could think of to make that trip. We were close but just not enough passengers to break even. I hope you got unto another trip --and maybe a later trip will work better in the long run for action.
Our last trip, which came back Sunday night, saw lots of life. I think there may be so many deep water squid on the banks that the tunas aren't interested in what we have to offer. We did well on mahi throughout the night and just before 8AM had a shot of 4 tunas on, landing two of those. Did some pot hopping till mid-day. I think the guys had a good time and everyone went home with some fish. It was terrific weather.
I'm optimistic about our trip, leaving tomorrow at 8AM. I have some ideas. I'm excited that we have the weather and some very good fishermen aboard. Let's do it!
