This was my first time on the beach for a prolonged season(July 4th-now) post Sandy. 3-5 days a week. Mantoloking area. Ocean looks dead to me. Very little if any bird activity and didn't see a single fish jump or chase bait etc. Also a total lack of fishermen even trying. I'll be out there til mid Oct and hope to report on catching something other than a cold :p

The ocean and surf was alive the entire month of July and August. This prolonged easterly blow churned it up real bad, and once things settle, and once we get some westerly winds, things will resume.

There is/was tons of bait in the wash, and there is no reason to believe it will return once the ocean settles. Give it time!

Small blue perhaps large snapper a better description before 10 AM today in Sea Bright. Was using a Hopkins shorty, dressed hook.

Bayshore, PM, 9/17. 7 bluefish, 15"-19", 2 stripers, 18"-19", 1 fluke, 14". 1st bass on a Rapala swimming plug, then everything on a 1-oz Kastmaster spoon. Small fish but big enough to be fun on light tackle. Small pods of bait, here and there. Either peanuts or mullet. Tried a plastic shad -- quickly chopped behind the hook.

Caught and released a fluke and snapper yesterday evening with squid on the Manasquan Inlet north jetty. Saw fluke and snappers caught by other fishermen. Spearing were jumping. Ocean was rough and murky on the low tide. > 23 surfers were there.

Fished sunday 1st light at the sandy hook fishing beach.

Crazy bluefish bite from 6:00 -7:00 then it died out -
could've been the sun or the dead low tide that stopped moving

MANY very large mullet schooling in the river by C beach
netted plenty

Nice to hear the mullet are in. They're a great bait, dead or alive.

Caught, tagged and released an 18" fluke that was blind in one eye yesterday evening in Manasquan Inlet with Bogan's Brielle Basin sushi quality cut squid from China on a 2 oz white bucktail.

PM, mid-incoming tide-to-high tide. Cocktail blues feeding on peanut bunker. No blitz -- picked 6 on a 1-oz Kastmaster spoon. After, a short break at high tide, tried the outgoing until about 6:30. Some peanuts were still around, but no hits for me. Tomorrow, the PM wind is forecast to pick up from the S. Not good for the ocean, but should be good on the Bayshore.

Wind blowing out as forecast -- good for long casts. But very little visible bait. Fished the one pod I saw, and got two 16" bluefish on a 1-oz Kastmaster spoon. Of course I tried blind casting but same old story -- no bait, no fish.:

Fished the Long Branch surf for a couple of hours this morning. Caught 7 fluke to 16" no keepers on white 4" gulp on a dropper loop. My "weight" was an A27 diamond jig. I was making long casts to the outer bar and retrieving slowly and shaking the rod to make the Gulp dance even stopping my retrieve occasionally. Got a couple of hits and one fish from around the bar and the rest were ridiculously close right at that first drop off. Always work your lures all the the way to the very edge. It's amazing how many fish strike just as you pull your lure into the wash.

Fished Sandy Hook point Sat morning (9/22) in hopes of albacore but all i saw was a bluefish blitz. caught a few on some metals. Then the wind picked up around 8am and most of the action stopped. Saw people were getting short fluke once in a while on bait rigs and gulp.

Unfortunately i did not stay the whole day for the evening high tide - i did hear the albacore were around in the afternoon the days prior..woops!

Whomped the fluke on Sunday, NoMoCo. 3 hours, 30 fish. Two would have been keepers on Saturday. A few cocktail blues too.

I gave it try in northern Ocean county last night. I tried some late night plugging and caught the skunk. Conditions were good and there was nobody on the beach. It was good to get out anyway.
