Got out yesterday with high expectations given all the nice water in the Mudhole recently... It was me Jarhead Arty and Joe L from my marina.

Pot hopped around in the north western edge for a while, water was not that great but a lot of pots around so figured we give it a shot but no takers.

Steamed a few miles south, water got much better but still no takers pot hopping so we decided to stream down to the southern part of the Monster Ledge and work our way north....

No pots in the area so we put out the spread and trolled north on the eastern edge for an hour with nothing...

Was starting to get discouraged so we picked up the lines, steamed north and and west to the west side and trolled in and around the pots along the western edge working our way towards home.

We had 2 chickens that hit jets and one nice gaffer around 36 inches that hit the way way back bird followed by a green machine.

Not a great trip but at least we didn’t get skunked.

You worked for your fish and you did not get skunked.

Just another reminder about fishing reports of "fish jumping in your boat" are usually wrong the next day. Don't take that report to the bank... it'll bounce.

Was hoping to fluke then run out there for mahi later in the day Saturday.
Of course when work can't mess fishing time up the weather does.

My first "gaffer" sized mahi :D Thanks for grinding it out! Blackened, or beer batter...hmm???

Too good a tasting and mild fish to dummy down with batter IMO.

Blacken it and put it over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes.

Don't cook it too long, thinner pieces a minute or so on each side. Thicker pieces 3 minutes.

Hit the range buoy and pot hopped out of Barnaget today, no hits, no runs, no errors, no sign of life.

Switched gears and started fluking. Put 5 in the box before the southeast wind came on strong creating a 2+ knot drift, so we finished one short of our 2 man limit.

Did spot a 6’+ spinner or black tip shark cruising the surface.

Blacken with a pineapple mango salsa and you'll never have it another way.

Great job fellas with 1 of my bucket list fish. Kinda jealous. Lol
