15 days 'til the Gambler's first 24hr tuna trip. I can't wait! Fluke fishin' helps stay the anxiety, but it's tuff fishin' with land in sight. I enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but after Muldune talked me into a tuna trip(early 90's), I've been hooked...some incredible sights out there from whales to the Aurora Borealis to mama porpoise teaching her young to hunt to tuna crashing your bait & so much more--just fantastic!!!

I can confirm seeing the aurora offshore after a big solar storm.
Love the life out there offshore. You never know what’s gonna happen out there.

If you love to tuna fish. Go to Cape cod. I use to fish the party boats. Then I had a trip cancelled and went cape cod. There is nothing like it....light tackle spinning gear, casting at big bft. Less expensive, no overnights, & much bigger fish. Www.fishreeldeal.com Go!

For me one of the most awesome sights was seeing the 40 foot whale shark swimming under the Sea Devil several years back. Also watching the Mako steal half of my 50 pound yellowfin in one bite. Snagging the giant sunfish only to have it tear ass a lot faster then I ever thought they swam was pretty cool as well. In addition, witnessing the 12 foot wide manta ray swim by was also memorable.
However with my health issues and the subsequent loss of strength and stamina, I am doubtful that I could land a 25 pound longfin let alone a 70 pound yellowfin. If I were to go, it would be up to a good Samaritan or a helpful deck hand to land anything I hook. That would might be worth it, I guess

A bottle of Jamesons and some ice cube helps me visualize the aurora borealis. ;)

Lol. 2 Coolest things I ever saw: one was a sperm whale. Capt mark of the blue runner said it was the first time he ever saw one of them out there and he basically has lived on the shelf line for a long time. Wild part is they only frequent where their food source resides—giant squid
Also had small blue marlin, not a swordfish, slowly approach the transom light for all the jacks stacked near there. Over the next minute it used its lightning fast bill to dislodge stun and devour every single jack. Was like holy sh@! Didn’t know it was possible they could be that fast and efficient. And the crew and Capt were positive it was a blue and at night.
