I have been waiting to go Mahi fishing and finally a friend told me he had gone and he did well. So I had an Open Boat trip with 4 fisherman to catch their first Mahi of the season. We arrived in the Mud Hole early and almost as soon as I put our spread out we got slammed. The first Mahi was a 15 lb. fish and it gave the angler what he came out to do. The Mahi jumped all over with it's 360 turns in the air and a pull on the rod that make you feel that you were fighting a fish twice the size. Right after that we got hit with the second Mahi and it was almost the same size and gave the same kind of fight to the next man on the pole. We trolled for a while longer then decide to do some bottom fishing and we were close to the Shark River Reef and decided to put our lines down there.
That was a waist of time caught some small Sea Bass then headed in to try to fish for some Bonita or Spanish Mackerel. Buy then it was too late in the day so we called it the day an headed in. But at least now I have the locations where to catch the next Mahi, so if your interested give me a call Captain Joe 732-684-8739
