I finally did it!! New PB - Jersey Jumbo!

Man where do i even start! Just gonna jump right into it. Got down to the boat around 445 or so. We loaded the boat with our gear and about 10 million dollars worth of gulp! Haha. Oh and 500 pounds of lead! So the tournament today was heavest 3 fish weight and biggest fish for the calcutta. We went out to where Capt wanted to try and we had fish on right away. We put a few keepers in the box quick then moved around a little bit and worked the area. It was early, maybe around 845 i am jigging along and all of a sudden it gets heavy so i swing and hooked up. Right away i knew we had a slob. Doubled over my heavier set up. Get 3 cranks on her..... AND I DROP IT!!!!!!!!!! My heart sank but quickly dropped back and jigged it twice and felt the weight again and i swung for the stars and it was game on! Fish went wild. Taking drag on my Accurate! Makes a few dives back down. At this point my knees are shaking so bad i could bearing stand. Got her up nice and slow and when we got a first look at the fish we were stunded! Al came running over with the net and the fish kinda swam its way into the net and bam!!! On the deck!!!!!!!! I couldnt believe my eyes. Was in shock! This is my first DD. Been fishing for a fish like this for a very long time! Been fishing my ass off and it payed off in a big way! We measured her and she came in at 30 and a half inches long and the scale on the boat was moving from like high ten to low 12. But the boat was moving so we really didnt get a good read on it. Figured it would be some where in the middle and it did. Offical weight was 11#5oz at the bait shop!!!!! Anyways back to fishing and we had a awesome day. Boat limit++++++++ All decent fish too. We moved around and worked lots of spots looking for another big one. We put some nice fish in the box but not the bigger ones we needed. Throwing back keepers all afternoon. Everyone fished their asses off today. Danny, Al, and Pancho it was great fishing with you guys again! Capt put us on the meat! Haha. So we ended up with a 20 pound 7oz 3 fish stringer. Good enough to take second. Then the 11.5 took overall and north calcutta's!! Hell yeah! Then we won the bluefish one too! Lol but Im still pumped up. Think im in shock! Either way it was a great day on the water. Lots of laughs. Saw some whales and bunker for miles too!!

Read this again and see that after you missed that fish you left if down and jigged a few more times and she came back... Lesson to be learned here for sure. Don't immediately reel up and check your bait after you get a strike. Leave it down there and jig it more...

These Fluke are more aggressive feeders then most think. They're not shy even after feeling the sting of a hook... Once they're keyed in on something, they loose their minds and will often times come back and hit it with reckless abandon.

Was with my brother Joe when he got his PB here in NJ.... We set up on the spot, he drops down and immediately got whacked by a good fish but did not get a good hookset. We let the drift play out for a few minutes and when she didn't come back, we went right back to the scene of the crime... He drops back down again and wham!! She hit it again but this time she got the hook.

Thanks Dad! Your the one that got me started over 20 years ago! Some years i didnt get to fish as much as i wanted to but always looked forward to our trips. Still do!! I hope you knock em dead this weekend on ur trip!! Ill be out there looking for that first place finish in the tournaments
