Hatteras SUGGESTIONS

Down for week of 8/19. Dock in yard and my 14 footer at the ready.

Anyone know the area? Ramps? Bait? Crabbing?

Would love to know somebody's experiences

I am going to Hatteras 9/9 thru 9/16. We go every year. I launch at the last marina before the ferry. Crabbing can be hit or miss. Last year was catching stone crab, the year before nothing, year before that about a dozen blue claws. With all the rain they've had who knows. I use chicken and fish carcasses for bait. As far as fishing in the sound goes I use all artificial baits including gulp. Some of the local bait shops can also point you in the right direction. If this is your first time to Hatteras it wont be your last, it is beautiful. Hope this helps.

great. where is ferry?

Sorry for the late reply, the ferry is located at the southern part of Hatteras Island, it is free to go to Ocracoke Island.

I will be down there same week, leaving tonight. We will be keeping our boat at teaches lair marina and we go every year. The clamming in the sound is great, but every year the sandbars move so it takes a little time the first day to find them. Never did much crabbing but we see plenty around. Hit me up when your settled in and I’ll let you know where we found the clams, usually in the grassy areas have soft bottom.
